Why doesn't my plug-in show up in my DAW?

Modified on Thu, 5 Jun at 4:07 PM

After installing your plug-ins, if you can't find them in your DAW's plugin menu, it's likely that they have been blocklisted by your DAW.

This can occur for a variety of reasons, such as connection issues with an iLok USB (if you use one), running the installer while your DAW is still open, or if your licence is not activated to a valid location in iLok Licence Manager.

Any of the above reasons may cause your DAW to think your plug-ins are faulty and will blocklist them in order to avoid loading a "faulty" plug-in every time you open it.

While different DAWs have different methods for resetting and rescanning your plug-ins, here is some general information that should be applicable for most DAWs:

  1. Make sure your plug-ins are installed to their default location, and that your DAW's plug-in path is set to scan that location.
  2. Make sure your plug-ins are activated correctly in iLok Licence Manager prior to DAW launch
  3. Download and install the latest version of the iLok Licence Manager if this app is not up to date.

Quick Steps to Check Your iLok and Plug-in Activation

  1. Close all DAWS

    • Please make sure that all DAWs are closed if you haven’t already.

  2. Open iLok Licence Manager

    • Download the latest version from www.ilok.com if you haven’t already.

    • Launch the app and sign in to your iLok account. (If you use multiple accounts, double check the ID!)

  3. Check your iLok

    • Plug in your iLok USB (if you’re using one) and confirm it appears in the left-hand panel.

    • If you’re using iLok Cloud, go to File > Open Cloud Session.

  4. Confirm your licence

    • Make sure your Sonnox licence is activated to your iLok USB or to the Cloud.

    • If it’s not, drag it from your account onto the correct location.

  5. Synchronise your iLok

    • Right-click your iLok USB and choose Synchronise to refresh it.

  6. Reopen your DAW
    • Launch your chosen DAW and check that the plugin is still available.
